In a bid to promote clean mobility and strengthen its energy infrastructure, the Tripura government will establish 45 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state. The announcement came from Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath while inaugurating the 33 kV Durga Chowmuhani Substation under the North Eastern Region (NER) Power System Improvement Project.
The new ₹9.76-crore substation project, aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply, will directly benefit 10,945 consumers. Nath also assured that all pending substation works will be completed ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja to guarantee a continuous supply of electricity during the festive season.
Highlighting the state’s renewable energy focus, Nath said, “We do not have a huge quantity of gas—it is slowly depleting and will one day run out. However, solar and wind energy will always be there. That’s why we are focusing on renewable sources to generate more power and revenue.”
The power department’s plan for 45 EV charging stations is expected to boost the adoption of electric vehicles in Tripura, aligning with India’s broader goals of sustainable and clean transportation.
