Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has officially entered India’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment with the launch of the all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking a major milestone in the company’s electrification journey in the country.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is Toyota’s first full-electric SUV for India and is based on the brand’s global electrified mobility expertise. Derived from the Urban SUV Concept, the new model combines bold SUV design, a spacious and premium cabin, advanced technology, and confident electric performance. The launch also reinforces Toyota’s “multi-pathway” approach, which focuses on offering multiple clean mobility solutions while supporting India’s goals of energy security and decarbonisation.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said the new electric SUV is a key step towards Toyota’s carbon-neutral vision. He said the company aims to support India’s transition to greener mobility while ensuring accessibility for all customers. He added that Toyota’s strong product line-up, technology leadership, after-sales support, and dealer network will play a critical role in achieving long-term sustainable mobility goals.

Global electrification experience behind India debut

Toyota highlighted its strong global track record in electrified technologies during the launch. Mr. Tadashi Asazuma, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said Toyota has over three decades of experience in electrified mobility and has already sold more than 38 million electrified vehicles worldwide. According to the company, these vehicles have helped reduce over 197 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions globally.

He noted that Toyota’s philosophy of “Mass Happiness,” with carbon neutrality at its core, guided the development and India-specific preparation of the Urban Cruiser Ebella. Beyond the vehicle itself, Toyota has focused on pre-launch readiness, including service infrastructure and customer support, to ensure a worry-free ownership experience aligned with global standards.

      Battery options, range and performance

The all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella is built on a dedicated BEV platform designed to deliver smooth acceleration, instant torque, and a refined driving experience. The low centre of gravity and optimised aerodynamics contribute to stability and quiet operation.

The electric SUV is offered with two battery options:

      • 49 kWh battery producing 106 kW of power

      • 61 kWh battery producing 128 kW of power and 189 Nm of torque

The larger battery pack delivers a certified driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge, as per ARAI certification. The vehicle uses lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology and comes with front-wheel drive.

For charging convenience, the Urban Cruiser Ebella supports CCS2 fast charging, AC wall-mounted chargers, and portable charging cables, making home and public charging easier for daily use.

Bold SUV design and premium interiors

Design plays a key role in the Urban Cruiser Ebella’s positioning. Inspired by Toyota’s ‘Urban Tech’ design philosophy, the SUV features a bold hammerhead front design, three-dimensional surfaces, and a strong road presence. Elements such as premium LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a tight turning radius of 5.2 metres enhance both style and usability.

Inside, the cabin blends the modern feel of an electric vehicle with the toughness of an SUV. The premium interior includes dual-tone colour themes, soft-touch materials, and a two-spoke squircle steering wheel. Practical features include sliding rear seats, a 40:20:40 split-folding rear seat layout, a panoramic roof, and ambient lighting with 12 colour options.

Comfort features include ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a JBL sound system, automatic climate control, an in-cabin air purifier, multiple USB ports, keyless entry, and push-button start.

      Connected tech and advanced safety

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It offers cloud-based navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over 100 connected features through Toyota’s i-Connect platform. These include remote charging control, battery status monitoring, and remote climate control.

On the safety front, the electric SUV meets Toyota’s global safety standards. It comes with seven airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Control, and a high-tensile body structure. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) at Level 2 include automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Additional features such as a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, ISOFIX mounts, and rear defogger enhance overall safety and convenience.

      Ownership experience and after-sales support

Toyota has placed strong emphasis on ownership experience for its first BEV in India. The Urban Cruiser Ebella comes with an 8-year battery warranty, along with flexible ownership programs such as Battery-as-a-Service and an Assured Buy Back program offering up to 60% residual value after three years.

The vehicle is supported by over 500 BEV-enabled service touchpoints across India, backed by 2,500+ trained BEV technicians. Toyota also offers 24×7 roadside assistance and 45-minute express maintenance services to ensure hassle-free ownership.

      Colours and personalisation

Customers can choose from a wide range of monotone colours including Enticing Silver, Café White, Sporting Red, Gaming Grey, and Bluish Black, along with dual-tone options. A variety of accessories are also available for personalisation.

With the launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella, Toyota Kirloskar Motor takes a decisive step into India’s electric vehicle space, combining global expertise with local readiness to offer a premium and reliable electric SUV for Indian customers.
