      As electric cars (EVs) have gained popularity, perhaps, the most important consideration for potential purchasers is charging speed. Faster charging reduces a driver’s downtime and maximizes the convenience EVs share with conventional vehicles, especially for long-distance drives. In 2025, amazing advancements in battery technology and charging infrastructure and, therefore, some EVs are now capable of adding hundreds of kilometres of range in only a few minutes! Here, we look at the ten fastest charging electric vehicles on the market.

      1. BYD Han L / Tang L

      Peak Charging Speed: Up to 1,000 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: Approximately 5 minutes
      Range Added: Up to 400 km (248 miles)

      BYD has unveiled its ultra-fast charging technology that can charge at 1,000 kW. The Han L and Tang L models will be the first to utilize this game-changer, but it’s still in the early stages of deployment. Early testing shows that a 5-minute charge can add about 400 kilometres of range. So far there is limited real world data, and the results are based on BYD’s in-house testing.

      2. Lucid Air Touring

      Peak Charging Speed: 200 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: Around 25 minutes
      Range Added: Approximately 406 km (252 miles)

      Lucid Air has led the way in marrying luxury and performance. The Touring model which was promoted in the past to support up to 350 kW is now only charging officially to a max of 200 kW. After charging for less than 30 minutes, this EV will add range of more than 400 kilometres.

      3. Lotus Eletre

      Peak Charging Speed: 367 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 19 minutes
      Range Added: About 393 km (244 miles)

      The Eletre is a luxury SUV that infuses supercar DNA into the EV space. It has a high average charging speed of 259 kW that enables it to recover a great deal of its range in as little as 20 minutes.

      4. Hyundai Ioniq 6 (Standard Range 2WD)

      Peak Charging Speed: 150 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 18 minutes
      Range Added: Around 235 km (146 miles)

      While the Ioniq 6 may not be the king of pure charging power, it is a strong contender, benefitting from 800V architecture that enables the vehicle to charge quickly and easily. The Ioniq 6 is also beautifully styled, at an appealing low price; it has mass market appeal.

      5. Porsche Taycan (2025 Model with Performance Battery Plus)

      Peak Charging Speed: 320 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 18 minutes
      Range Added: About 359 km (223 miles)

      Porsche made enhancements to be faster charging and bigger battery sizes for its Taycan cars. The 2025 edition, for example, can charge up to 320 kW, which can lead to a nearly complete charge in just 18 minutes.

      6. Kia EV6 GT

      Peak Charging Speed: 263 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 17 minutes
      Range Added: Around 270 km (168 miles)

      The EV6 GT offers an amazing combination of performance and usability. Its 800V technology enables faster charging and less heating making it a a focal point for long-distance drivers.

      7. Hyundai Ioniq 5 (63 kWh RWD)

      Peak Charging Speed: 195 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 18 minutes
      Range Added: Around 242 km (150 miles)

      The EV6 offers futuristic style and economical charging. Although it has a slower charge time compared to the EV6 GT, the EV6 is still one of the best fast-charging options for a 20-minute charge.

      8.Genesis GV60 Premium

      Peak Charging Speed: 233 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 16 minutes
      Range Added: Approximately 273 km (170 miles)

      The Genesis GV60 offers elegance to the electric vehicle space. The saloon-style has a comfortable interior, and the GV60 rates well for charging capability and rapid top-ups with minimal hassle.

      9. Tesla Model 3 Long Range

      Peak Charging Speed: 250 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 22 minutes
      Range Added: About 290 km (180 miles)

      With its Supercharger network and a slightly different approach to ozone efficiency, the Model 3 is one of the most practical options for fast charging, particularly with real-world data making it an extremely reliable option for travelers.

      10. Audi e-tron GT

      Peak Charging Speed: 270 kW
      10–80% Charge Time: 22.5 minutes
      Range Added: Around 300 km (186 miles)

      Combining sports vehicle style with considerable advancements in communication, the Audi e-tron GT is also a terrific fast-charging option in the luxury vehicle category.

      Charging speed is becoming a key distinction in the EV space, and manufacturers are working hard to minimize wait times. Whether BYD is leading the way with 1,000 kW charging or legacy brands like Porsche and Audi are expanding and honing their charging infrastructure, the future is ultra-critical charging. As more public fast chargers are deployed and battery chemistry improves, EVs will become even more practical for not only everyday and routine driving but also in the execution of distance travel.

      When considering an EV, it is important not to simply look at the maximum charging rate. Real-world performance is also influenced by a larger battery size, average charging speed, and charging rate curves. The cars above are simultaneously pushing the boundaries of technologies relevant to onboarding in 2025.
