In a landmark move signaling its official entry into India’s electric vehicle infrastructure space, Tesla will launch its first-ever EV charging station in the country on August 4 at One BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) in Mumbai.
The facility will feature four high-powered V4 Superchargers offering up to 250 kW of fast charging, along with four 11 kW Destination Chargers for slower AC charging. According to Tesla, the V4 chargers will allow vehicles like the Model Y to gain up to 267 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes, enough for several intra-city round trips.
Charging will be priced at ₹24 per kWh for Supercharging and ₹14 per kWh for Destination Charging.
National Charging Network Underway
This station is the first of eight Supercharger sites that Tesla plans to establish across major Indian cities, including Delhi NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The upcoming network aims to support Tesla’s EV rollout in India and enhance public charging accessibility for electric car owners.
Tesla owners can access the station using the Tesla app, which enables users to locate chargers, reserve slots, track charging progress, and make payments, consistent with the brand’s global user experience.
EV Model Rollout and Experience Centre
Tesla recently launched its Model Y SUV in India, available in Standard and Long Range variants. The vehicle, starting at around ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), will be sold via Tesla’s newly inaugurated Experience Centre at BKC, the same location as the charging station.
Deliveries for the Model Y are expected to begin in Q3 2025, initially targeting cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram.
A Step Toward Sustainable Mobility
The launch of Tesla’s Supercharger station is an important step in India’s EV journey. With high-speed, reliable public charging now available, it is expected to boost consumer confidence in electric vehicles and help accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels.
This move also aligns with the Indian government’s goal of expanding EV adoption and developing robust charging infrastructure as part of its broader clean energy and sustainability agenda.
