In a major step toward strengthening India’s energy storage and electric mobility ecosystem, Tesla Group a.s., a global leader in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), has partnered with SRAM & MRAM Group to set up a network of large-scale BESS gigafactories in India. The initiative is part of a USD 1 billion global collaboration aimed at building one of the largest battery manufacturing and supply chain ecosystems in the world.

Under the partnership, both companies will jointly establish five gigafactories in India, while a total of 20 gigafactories are planned worldwide, including in the United States, Malaysia, Oman, Brazil, the UAE, and Cambodia. Each facility will be spread across approximately 500 acres, incorporating end-to-end design, manufacturing, and supply chain infrastructure for EV batteries and energy storage solutions.

As per the agreement, SRAM & MRAM Group will be responsible for obtaining government approvals, securing subsidies and tax incentives, and forging local partnerships to ensure smooth execution in India. Meanwhile, Tesla Group a.s. will lead on design, engineering, and construction, bringing its global expertise in battery technologies and manufacturing.

The companies said the collaboration aligns with India’s growing push for energy security, renewable integration, and electric mobility. With India emerging as one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets, large-scale investments in BESS infrastructure are seen as crucial to support both grid stability and the adoption of electric vehicles.

“The collaboration will create one of the largest battery manufacturing and storage supply chains for electric vehicles (EVs) globally,” said Sailesh Hiranandani, Chairman of SRAM & MRAM Group.

“By combining our advanced BESS technology with SRAM’s global expertise, we are not only building factories but also fostering vibrant communities that will drive the future of sustainable energy,” stated Nanda K Bhagi, President of Tesla Group.

Industry experts believe that this move could make India a significant hub in the global battery supply chain while also creating new opportunities in clean energy manufacturing, employment, and sustainable infrastructure development.

This joint effort represents not only a bold expansion strategy by Tesla Group and SRAM-MRAM but also a direct contribution to India’s long-term goals of energy transition and net-zero commitments.
