The Telangana government is planning to offer additional incentives to boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with state employees likely to receive a 10–20% discount on EV purchases through partnerships with automobile companies.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the government has urged manufacturers to extend special concessions to government staff as part of its broader push toward cleaner mobility. The move is aimed at encouraging employees and public representatives to shift from conventional fuel-powered vehicles to electric alternatives.
The proposed discount is part of Telangana’s wider EV strategy, which already includes 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees to make electric vehicles more affordable. The state has been actively promoting EV adoption to reduce pollution and position itself as a leader in clean mobility.
Officials believe that offering discounts through manufacturers, combined with existing tax benefits, could significantly lower the upfront cost of EVs and accelerate their adoption among government employees. The initiative also aligns with the government’s efforts to lead by example by encouraging public sector usage of electric vehicles.
With EV adoption gradually rising in the state, the government is also expanding charging infrastructure and promoting electrification across departments and industries. The proposed employee discount scheme is expected to further strengthen Telangana’s push toward sustainable transportation.
