Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized that public transport and electric vehicles are central to the state’s urban transport strategy during the Second National Mobility Summit 2026 at HICC Novotel on 2026.
He highlighted the government’s plans to strengthen bus services, metro connectivity, and last-mile transport, noting that reliable public transport is key to reducing congestion and boosting productivity in growing cities.
On promoting cleaner mobility, Prabhakar said Telangana has implemented a 100% road tax and registration exemption for electric vehicles until the end of 2026, benefiting EV buyers by nearly ₹1,000 crore so far. The state is also supporting last-mile connectivity with 20,000 new electric three-wheelers and approvals for 10,000 CNG and 10,000 LPG autorickshaws, plus permits to convert existing vehicles to electric.
Electrification of public transport is a priority, with over 325 electric buses already in operation. The government aims to expand this to 2,800 buses in the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road area by 2027, alongside investments in green infrastructure to reduce emissions and improve urban air quality.
