In a significant boost to India’s electric-vehicle (EV) ecosystem, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has sanctioned funding to Electrowaves Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Himachal Pradesh, for the commercialization of indigenously designed and manufactured EV chargers. This initiative aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India vision, promoting self-reliance in clean mobility infrastructure.
Supporting Domestic EV Charger Manufacturing
The funding covers both AC chargers for domestic and public use and DC fast chargers with outputs ranging from 30 kW to 240 kW, catering to diverse EV types. Electrowaves has developed a robust in-house technology stack, including:
-
Power modules (15 kW and 30 kW)
-
Insulation monitoring devices
-
Communication controllers compliant with DIN SPEC 70121, partial ISO 15118, and OCPP 1.6J / 2.0.1 protocols
-
Universal DC charge controllers with HMI
This homegrown technology aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported EV chargers while ensuring reliable, efficient, and scalable charging solutions nationwide.
Accelerating India’s Clean Mobility Goals
The project is expected to accelerate the deployment of EV infrastructure, facilitating faster EV adoption and supporting sustainable transportation initiatives. By enhancing the domestic manufacturing base, the initiative also strengthens Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives, ensuring that India can produce critical EV technologies in-country.
Impact on the EV Ecosystem
-
Promotes indigenous EV charger technology and manufacturing capabilities
-
Strengthens nationwide EV charging infrastructure for faster adoption
-
Supports sustainable, self-reliant mobility solutions under government-backed initiatives
The TDB’s support underscores India’s commitment to building a clean, efficient, and self-sufficient EV ecosystem, paving the way for long-term growth in electric mobility.
