Tata Technologies, a global leader in product engineering and digital services, has introduced WATTSync, a secure and scalable digital battery passport solution aimed at advancing sustainable engineering across the entire battery lifecycle—from mining to recycling.

WATTSync is designed to improve transparency, efficiency, and environmental impact by enabling OEMs, battery manufacturers, and recyclers to operate with greater resilience and innovation in the evolving global mobility landscape. The platform operates on the principle: “When you can trace it, you can trust it.”

      Key Features of WATTSync:

      • Captures and validates battery data throughout its lifecycle—from raw materials to mobility and recycling stages.

      • Provides live, shared insights into materials, performance, carbon footprint, and recovery status.

      • Automates compliance reporting aligned with changing regional regulations.

      • Offers secure, role-based access for suppliers, auditors, and regulators, ensuring a unified digital truth.

WATTSync integrates data from PLM, MES, ERP systems, and cloud data lakes to create a digital thread for each battery. The solution leverages AI to monitor battery health, detect anomalies, and flag potential issues proactively. Blockchain technology ensures data integrity, while a cloud-agnostic deployment enables rapid scaling across regions.

      Meeting Regulatory Demands

From February 2027, electric vehicle and industrial batteries sold in the European Union will require a digital battery passport. Several automotive OEMs have already begun adopting similar solutions, demonstrating how transparency can boost market confidence and resale value. India has also announced plans to implement a battery passport system to enhance safety, traceability, and exports, with many other countries expected to follow suit.

WATTSync enables global customers to comply early and confidently with these emerging regulations.

      Anticipated Impact

      • Improved circular economy outcomes through better second-life battery and recycling insights.

      • Faster, audit-ready compliance with evolving regional rules.

      • Reduced risk via verified sourcing and tamper-evident data.

      • Enhanced design decisions driven by AI-powered, closed-loop feedback from the field to engineering teams.

With WATTSync, Tata Technologies is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable innovation and transparency in the global battery industry.
