Tata Motors is set to launch the Safari EV in the fourth quarter of 2026, marking the company’s move to electrify its iconic three-row SUV. Codenamed ‘Tata Tayrona,’ the Safari EV will feature Tata’s second-generation EV platform, acti.ev+, following the launch of the Tata Sierra EV earlier in the year.

The Safari EV is expected to be offered in two seating layouts: a standard seven-seat version and a more comfort-focused six-seat version. Tata Motors may introduce single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants. The rear motor, sourced from Schaeffler, is projected to deliver 175 kW (235 hp) and 304 Nm of torque, while the additional front motor in the AWD variant could add 116 kW (156 hp) and 164 Nm, taking total output up to 291 kW (390 hp) with torque up to 504 Nm. This setup could allow a 0–100 km/h sprint in under seven seconds.

The Safari EV will also see a major suspension upgrade, replacing the torsion beam with a multi-link rear setup featuring Frequency Dependent Dampers (FDD) for improved ride comfort.

Battery options are expected to include 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP packs, with the smaller pack offering around 500 km of range in the single-motor RWD variant and the larger pack providing up to 600 km in both RWD and AWD models. Fast-charging support is projected at 100 kW for the 65 kWh pack and 120 kW for the 75 kWh pack.

      Advanced features may include:

      • Vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) bi-directional charging
      • Transparent chassis view
      • Auto Park Assist (APA)
      • UPI-based ‘DrivePay’ charging and FasTag payments
      • Summon Mode

The Safari EV is expected to rival the Mahindra XEV 9S in India, combining long-range capability, AWD performance, and advanced EV features in a three-row electric SUV package.
