In less than four years since its October 2021 introduction, Tata Motors has achieved a significant milestone with the manufacturing of its groundbreaking small SUV, the Tata Punch, surpassing the 6 lakh mark. This remarkable accomplishment solidifies Punch’s standing as the top-selling vehicle in India in 2024 and strengthens its reputation as the preferred SUV among the country’s first-time automobile buyers.

Tata Punch was the first SUV in the sub-compact SUV market, combining aggressive styling, high ground clearance, strong safety, and adaptable drivetrains with the goal of democratising the SUV experience for all Indians. It has grown to be a popular option for people and families looking for value, flair, and dependability in both big cities and little villages.

Nearly 70% of Punch ICE purchasers are first-time car owners, and the car has also gained popularity among female drivers, according to Tata Motors. Remarkably, women make up 25% of Punch EV owners, highlighting the vehicle’s allure as a useful and empowering vehicle. The SUV’s ownership distribution, which is 24% in Tier 1 cities, 42% in Tier 2 towns, and 34% in Tier 3 regions, reflects its broad appeal.

The Punch, according to Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, “embodies the spirit of a new India — bold, self-assured, and ready to forge its own path.” Reaching the 6 lakh milestone signifies more than just a production accomplishment; it also shows how much faith more than 6 lakh Indians have in a car that stands for self-assurance, presence, and a new beginning in life.

      Tata Punch’s accolades include:

      • 5-star safety rating across both ICE (Global NCAP) and EV (Bharat NCAP) variants
      • Available in Petrol, CNG, and EV options
      • Contributes to 36% of Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle sales
      • Holds a 38% market share in the sub-compact SUV segment (FY25)
      • Recorded a 15% year-on-year growth
      • Winner of over 20 prestigious automotive awards

Tata Motors has started the “India Ki SUV” campaign to commemorate the milestone, showcasing true tales of consumers whose lives have been changed by owning a Punch. The ad presents the car as more than simply a car; it is a movement that has given millions of people power throughout different eras and regions.

The Tata Punch continues to reshape Indians’ expectations for their first automobile with its unparalleled blend of design, functionality, and price. As Tata Motors looks to the future, Punch is a market leader and a representation of inclusivity and innovation, propelling the goals of a self-assured new India.
