The newly released Tata Harrier EV passed the Bharat NCAP crash tests with a perfect 5-star rating. The electric SUV received 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection and 32 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection.

Safety features of the Tata Harrier EV

Although the top-spec Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 AWD models of the Harrier EV were assessed by Bharat NCAP, the tested ratings are applicable to the full Harrier EV lineup. Six airbags (seven on the Fearless and Empowered models), three-point seatbelts with reminders for every passenger, ESC, ISOFIX anchors for the back outboard seats, and a passenger-side airbag cut-off button are all standard on the Harrier EV. Additionally, the Harrier EV conforms with AIS-100 pedestrian safety standards. Additionally, the top-spec Empowered trim comes with an ADAS package.

Protection of adult occupants with the Tata Harrier EV

The Harrier EV is only the second SUV to receive a perfect score of 32 points in the adult occupant protection category in the BNCAP crash tests. The only other SUV that can boast of this is the Mahindra XEV 9e, which is also the main competitor of the Harrier EV. Another noteworthy finding is that, in contrast to other NCAP crash testing, the driver and passenger crash test dummies reported “good” protection for every body part. Additionally, it passed the side pole impact test with an “OK” rating.

Protection of children in the Tata Harrier EV

The Harrier EV received 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, which is the same as the Mahindra XEV 9e. It received full marks in the CRS installation test (12/12) and dynamic test (24/24) and received a score of 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment exam. The three-year-old and 18-month-old child dummies were tested in rear-facing child seats that were mounted in the front passenger seat and held in place by a support leg and ISOFIX anchorages. The Harrier EV lacks an integrated child restraint system but has ISOFIX anchorages on the two outboard rear seats.

Notably, the combustion-powered Harrier has a 5-star BNCAP safety certification as well, despite having slightly lower COP (44.54/49) and AOP (30.08/32) ratings. The Harrier EV is the eighth car from Tata to receive a 5-star BNACP safety rating.
