Schaeffler India has launched a first-of-its-kind effort to train underprivileged children in the future-oriented sector of electric vehicle maintenance (EV).

The Schaeffler Technical Enhancement Programme (STEP) includes a collaboration between Schaeffler India and the Don Bosco Training Centre in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune. The residential training hub will provide students aged 18-24 with a comprehensive six-month training programme ending in a diploma from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

After graduation, students can use their unique skills to secure positions in prominent automotive businesses and licenced dealerships for EV car servicing. The objective for 2024 is to train 180 students, according to the press announcement.

Harsha Kadam, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Schaeffler India, said, “This STEP Center will take Schaeffler India’s dedication to enable social inclusion and equal opportunities by empowering our future – the under-represented youth.”

“Having spent years innovating in all aspects of Motion Technology as a trusted development partner for the country’s pioneering automotive companies, Schaeffler India is bringing its insights into the technology frontier of EV maintenance to the realm of skilling—the need of the hour for making our automotive industry future-ready.” said Harsha

The rigorous six-month training course will include modules on EV battery maintenance, auto electricals and electronics, and computer numerical control (CNC). They will prepare the students to qualify as EV service technicians, mechanics of automotive electrical parts & electronics, and CNC programmers.
