Scania has unveiled its new high-floor battery-electric vehicle (BEV) platform at Busworld Europe 2025, marking a major milestone in the company’s global electrification strategy. Designed for both urban and inter-city transport, this platform enables the production of fully electric buses and coaches with extended range, high passenger capacity, and versatile operational capabilities.

High-Floor BEV Platform: Key Features and Capabilities

      • Extended Range: The platform offers up to 600 km range, making it ideal for medium-distance inter-city routes, airport shuttles, and long-haul coaches.

      • Ample Luggage Space: Designed to provide luggage capacity comparable to conventional combustion-powered coaches, supporting smooth adoption by transport operators.

      • Power and Charging: Equipped with an e-machine output of up to 330 kW and installed battery energy up to 534 kWh (480 kWh usable), the platform supports fast charging up to 325 kW (500A).

      • Versatility: Compatible with various bus and coach body types, suitable for school buses, sightseeing coaches, and scalable urban BRT systems.

      Strategic Significance

The launch of the high-floor BEV platform expands Scania’s electrification portfolio into new market segments, particularly inter-city and coach operations. With its extended range, scalable design, and high luggage capacity, the platform addresses the increasing demand for sustainable, zero-emission transport solutions in both urban and travel sectors.

Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania, stated:

“With the launch of the new high-floor BEV platform, Scania is not only introducing our first battery-electric coaches but also reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in the transition to sustainable transport.”

      Aligning with Global Electrification Trends

This launch underscores the global shift towards electrification in commercial transportation, as manufacturers focus on reducing carbon emissions, complying with stricter environmental standards, and meeting rising consumer demand for eco-friendly mobility solutions.

Scania’s platform provides operators with a robust, high-performance, and environmentally sustainable solution suitable for both urban transit systems and long-distance coach operations.

      Conclusion

By unveiling the high-floor battery-electric platform at Busworld Europe 2025, Scania strengthens its leadership in zero-emission public transport. The platform combines advanced battery technology, operational versatility, and sustainable design, positioning Scania as a key player in the global transition to electric mobility for buses and coaches.
