Royal Enfield is moving closer to launching its first electric motorcycle, as its upcoming model the Flying Flea C6 has once again been spotted testing on public roads in India.
The latest sighting in Chennai showed the prototype running without camouflage, a strong indication that the bike is in its final stages of development. The near-production-ready design suggests that an official launch may not be far away.
The Flying Flea C6 was first unveiled as a concept in late 2024, just ahead of EICMA in Milan. Unlike many electric motorcycle concepts that lean toward futuristic styling, Royal Enfield has taken a different route by drawing heavily from its historical roots.
The name “Flying Flea” itself is a nod to a lightweight motorcycle used by British forces during World War II. That original model was designed for portability and could even be dropped into combat zones by parachute. The modern electric version retains that minimalist and lightweight philosophy while integrating contemporary technology.
Visually, the C6 stands out with its retro-inspired design, particularly the girder-style front suspension—a feature rarely seen on modern motorcycles. This blend of old-school aesthetics with new-age engineering gives the bike a distinctive identity in the growing EV two-wheeler segment.
Beneath its vintage look, however, the motorcycle is expected to feature an advanced digital backbone. At its core is a newly developed Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), engineered in-house by Royal Enfield. This system acts as the central processor, managing motor performance, regenerative braking, and overall ride dynamics.
The production version is likely to include multiple riding modes, traction control, cornering ABS, and cruise control. Connectivity features are also expected, with a companion smartphone app enabling customization of ride settings. The bike may even support a digital key function, allowing riders to unlock and start it using their phones.
As electric mobility continues to evolve, Royal Enfield’s approach signals a shift toward combining performance, heritage design, and smart technology—potentially redefining how electric motorcycles appeal to traditional riders.
