Originally expected to arrive later this year, Range Rover’s first electric vehicle will not be arriving. After informing consumers that they would have to wait a bit longer, JLR postponed the Range Rover Electric’s launch. But that could not be the only EV that JLR is holding up.
The electric SUV was once scheduled to arrive in stores in late 2025, but it has since been postponed until the following year.
While it awaited greater demand, the British automaker said it required additional time for testing. But there’s more to the tale. The Guardian claims that Jaguar Land Rover informed customers who were waiting for the Range Rover Electric in writing that deliveries would not begin until 2026.
Two Jaguar EV vehicles, including the striking blue-and-pink Type 00 Concept, may also be impacted by the delay, according to people familiar with the situation. It is anticipated that Jaguar’s electric cars will be many months behind schedule.
The announcement follows JLR’s announcement last week that it will eliminate up to 500 executive posts in the UK. The Trump administration’s new vehicle tariffs had a significant negative impact on Britain’s biggest automaker.
After JLR was obliged to temporarily suspend shipments to the US, the company’s sales fell by more than 15% in the preceding quarter.
“JLR will sell electric versions of all its luxury brands by 2030,” a company representative stated, adding, “We will launch our new models at the right time for our clients, our business, and individual markets.”
More than 61,000 people have signed up for Range Rover’s first electric SUV. It is presently going through “the most intensive testing any Range Rover vehicle has ever endured,” according to JLR.
The Velar’s electric variant is slated for a drastic makeover. Although April 2026 is the planned production date, that might possibly be postponed. Early in 2027, an electric Defender is anticipated.
In the meantime, Jaguar’s first EV since the I-PACE is scheduled to go into production in August 2026. As part of its brand makeover, Jaguar’s electrified GT is anticipated to cost more than £100,000 ($135,000). It may now wait until December 2027 to debut its second EV.
