The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has signed a new contract with Olectra Greentech Ltd for more than ₹424 crore to provide and maintain 297 electric buses. Full vehicle maintenance is covered under the contract, and delivery is expected within 11 months from the date of award.
As Himachal Pradesh is an ecologically sensitive state, it is expected that the utilization of electric buses will reduce fuel dependency and curb emissions in remote areas. The initiative complements national efforts to prioritize clean energy sources and modernize public transport.
Olectra’s position in India’s rapidly expanding electric mobility space is further bolstered by the order, particularly in the public transport segment. With government-sponsored schemes such as the FAME II scheme and PLI schemes driving the shift, the shift to electric buses is crucial to the country’s broader climate goals.
In Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, state transport corporations have been adding more electric buses to their fleets. As adoption has progressed with the help of the center and falling battery prices, electric buses are emerging as a viable and cost-effective alternative to fleets of diesel buses.
Olectra is coming to be recognized as a leading provider of electric mobility solutions as cities look to curtail urban pollution and enhance public transport. Its growing order book and maintenance services prove its ability to offer scalable, efficient, and sustainable transport systems.
