Odisha Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo has announced introducing a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy to promote the use of electric vehicles in government departments.
The new EV policy will first encourage the use of electric vehicles by government officials. The Deputy CM emphasized that the officials need to set an example by adopting green practices, starting with the shift to electric vehicles for official use on a daily basis.
Apart from encouraging electric cars, the Deputy Chief Minister also guaranteed that solar panels would be installed in all government offices within the next five years. Solar panels are also being installed on the roof of the government quarters.
Both Union and state governments will provide incentives for the program. Along with promoting electric vehicles, the Deputy Chief Minister assured that all government buildings will be equipped with solar panels in the next five years. Solar panels are also being fitted atop the government quarters.
The project seeks to minimize the use of non-renewable electricity and ensure energy independence in state-owned organizations.
A number of government offices in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar have already installed solar panels, paving the way for the rest of the state. These pioneers prove the feasibility and affordability of Odisha’s proposed renewable revolution.
