India’s leading automobile firm, Hero Electric has collaborated with NIDEC Japan for product development.

NIDEC Japan Hero Electric entered into a partnership with NIDEC Japan over two years ago for the development of electric bike motors. Under the partnership, both these companies were co-developing electric motors.

In the peripherals of IEB Autotech2022 in Tokyo, Hero Electric has made an official announcement that it is granting preferred partner status to NIDEC Japan for product development.

This decision comes after Hero Electric’s recent efforts to find a reliable component supplier did not return desirable results as Indian suppliers weren’t willing to risk their investments in a low-volume market and given the unpredictability of the EV sector, as stated by the company.

Commenting on the new status given by the company to NIDEC Japan, Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric, India said, “Our partnership with NIDEC Japan was forged to help alleviate our growing supply chain issues. Having them on board and our close partnership with them is now allowing us to develop Power Train Components across all our product range progressively.”

The company also stated that it took a long time to reach this stage with NIDEC Japan where they are in a confident position with the powertrain that NIDEC Japan will deliver from the company’s facility in Neemrana.

Hero Electric also announced that its city high-speed series of e-bikes powered by NIDEC’s electric motors are scheduled to roll out in February 2023.

Commenting on the partnership with Hero Electric, the spokesperson of NIDEC India Pvt Ltd. expressed his gratitude and stated that it was their pleasure and honour to announce that the company has made a breakthrough and developed a hub motor that is suitable for Indian conditions.

He went on to add that “This is the beginning of further breakthroughs and developments in collaboration with Hero Electric and we hope this partnership will be a milestone in the field of electric vehicle motors in India”
