GreenPower Motor Company, a leading manufacturer of purpose-built all-electric vehicles, has partnered with the state of New Mexico to launch a $5 million pilot program deploying electric school buses. The initiative underscores the state’s commitment to sustainable transportation and cleaner air for students.
As part of the pilot, GreenPower will deliver its advanced all-electric school buses, designed to provide zero-emission transportation while reducing long-term operating costs for school districts. The programme aims to evaluate the performance, efficiency, and environmental benefits of electric buses in real-world conditions across the state.
State officials highlighted that the project aligns with New Mexico’s broader clean energy and climate goals, supporting the transition to sustainable mobility while ensuring the health and safety of schoolchildren.
“Investing in clean school transportation is an investment in our children’s future and the environment,” said a state representative during the announcement.
The pilot program will not only cut harmful emissions but also generate data to inform future large-scale adoption of electric school buses throughout New Mexico.
