A state government has unveiled a revamped Electric Vehicle (EV) strategy aimed at making electric transport more affordable and accessible while significantly expanding charging infrastructure.

The $100 million plan focuses on scaling up EV adoption by increasing the number of fast-charging stations, expanding kerbside chargers for residents without home charging access, and supporting businesses transitioning truck fleets to electric vehicles.

The strategy also includes measures to train more mechanics for EV servicing and improve workforce capacity as electric vehicle numbers rise across the state, including in regional and rural areas.

The policy is designed to ease cost-of-living pressures linked to fuel prices by encouraging households to switch to lower-cost electric transport options.

The announcement comes shortly after the federal government launched a separate initiative encouraging reduced driving amid ongoing fuel concerns, highlighting growing policy attention on transport affordability and energy security.

Authorities say the plan will focus on five key areas, including infrastructure expansion, freight electrification, workforce training, and improving public access to EV-related information.
