The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of nearly 20,000 electric bicycles from Trek Bicycle Corporation and its subsidiary Electra Bicycle Company due to a potential safety hazard.
The recall affects model year 2026 Trek FX+ 1 and Electra Townie Go! e-bikes. According to the agency, the rear wheel bolts on these bicycles can break when tightened, which may cause the wheel to detach and pose a fall risk to riders.
Approximately 19,890 units are impacted by the recall, covering bikes sold in the United States before October 28, 2025.
Authorities have reported at least seven incidents of bolt failures. However, no injuries have been linked to the issue so far.
Consumers are advised to stop using the affected bicycles immediately and contact authorized dealers for a free repair. The fix involves replacing the faulty rear wheel bolts.
The recall marks a setback for Trek, particularly as the FX+ 1 series represents one of its key entry-level electric models.
