Naxion Energy (formerly Sodion Energy), the country’s first dedicated Sodium-ion Energy company, announced a major step toward strengthening India’s energy ecosystem with the introduction of its Sodium-ion-based Energy Storage systems.

Designed, developed, and manufactured in their Coimbatore plant, the new All-in-One Energy platform with its completely inbuilt battery, inverter, and solar MPPT addresses a critical gap in India’s power and backup ecosystem: the need for a safer, lighter, and more cost-efficient alternative to legacy lead-acid batteries. This technology is engineered to meet the growing demand for clean, reliable, and maintenance-free energy storage across the residential, commercial, industrial and defence sectors, delivering long cycle life and exceptional performance in extreme Indian climates. With a truly zero-maintenance design, no water top-ups, corrosion, swelling, or periodic service, the systems deliver predictable, long-term reliability.

Talking about the mission, chief guest G. Satheesh Reddy, Former Chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister said, “I extend my heartiest congratulations to the team at Naxion Energy on establishing a state-of-the-art facility for the production of Sodium-ion battery systems. My best wishes to the entire team on the unveiling of this significant innovation. As India’s energy generation and mobility landscape continues to evolve, the need for efficient, sustainable, and secure energy storage solutions has never been greater. Sodium-ion technology holds immense potential, especially in addressing the critical material constraints associated with conventional battery systems. This milestone marks an important step forward in strengthening India’s path toward energy security and long-term self-reliance.I am confident that Naxion Energy’s efforts will contribute meaningfully to advancing India’s clean energy future, and I wish the organisation continued success in the years ahead.”

The inherently safe, non-flammable, and non-toxic Sodium ion chemistry eliminates risks associated with thermal runaway, making it ideal for dense residential areas, commercial buildings, and enclosed indoor installations. Sodium-ions’ unique chemistry also allows it to charge and discharge at much higher rates than lead acid or Lithium chemistries. This allows their batteries to not only have much faster charging speeds but also to give higher power output. The latter gives Naxion’s new Energy systems the ability to run any high inductive loads. This includes Air Conditioners, compressors, pumps, or industrial applications such as welding, cutting, or grinding- capabilities that traditional battery technologies cannot reliably support.

Speaking on the company’s broader mission, Abishek Reddy, CEO, Naxion Energy India, said, “Our goal is much larger than introducing a new battery. We are building the backbone for India’s future energy systems, safe solutions, fully local, and accessible to every market segment. Sodium-ion gives India the rare opportunity to establish an indigenous supply chain without dependency on scarce imports. With this platform, our strategy is to scale across high-demand sectors, collaborate with OEMs, and enable mobility and equipment manufacturers to transition to cleaner and more reliable power sources.”

India continues to be one of the biggest users of diesel generators worldwide, depending on them for everything from commercial and industrial operations to home backup. High fuel prices, noise, pollution, and extensive maintenance are all consequences of this reliance.

The Sodium-ion Energy Storage platform from Naxion is intended to directly replace these generators and engineered to overcome long-standing limitations of traditional lead-acid-based backup systems by offering up to 2-3 times longer life, significantly reducing operational costs and downtime. With up to 60% lower weight and a compact, modular footprint, they offer unmatched installation flexibility for homes, enterprises, and industrial spaces. Designed to perform reliably across extreme temperatures from –30°C to +70°C, the systems provide consistent backup power even in India’s harshest climates, ensuring stability during outages and peak load conditions.

The storage system comes in 3.5Kw, 5Kw, and 10Kw models with in-built batteries. Each one of these batteries is capable of being expanded to double its capacity.

Rather than focusing solely on product availability, the company is positioning this breakthrough as the foundation for a fully localized, sustainable battery ecosystem that reduces reliance on imported materials and drives long-term energy security.

Together, these features position Sodium-ion as one of the most scalable, safe, and climate-resilient battery technologies to meet India’s new energy demands.

By the end of next year, Naxion Energy India plans to invest ₹200 crore to enhance manufacturing capabilities and expand its workforce by 50%. As part of its India-wide expansion, the company is also setting up a new manufacturing plant in Telangana, operational next year, to support growing demand from both OEMs and enterprise customers.

Naxion currently works with an expanding network of dealers across all major cities, serving customers such as Sagar Cements, Tamil Nadu Forest Department, TAFE dealerships, MSME industrial clusters, regional logistics operators, and specialty vehicle manufacturers, among others.
