NavPrakriti, Eastern India’s first large-scale lithium-ion battery recycling and refurbishment company, has announced plans to partner with over 150 battery manufacturers and OEMs in the coming years. This collaboration aims to create a comprehensive nationwide network for the collection, recycling, and refurbishment of spent batteries, supporting compliance with India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations.
Advanced Recycling Infrastructure
The company recently commissioned Eastern India’s first state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery recycling plant in Kolkata, with a current capacity to process 1,000 tonnes of used batteries per month. This facility focuses on recovering critical materials, including aluminium, copper, nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium, ensuring sustainable material reuse.
Driving Circular Economy and Sustainability
NavPrakriti’s expansion supports India’s transition to a circular economy by reducing waste, securing a steady supply of recycled raw materials, and minimizing dependency on imports. Its efforts align with national sustainability goals and the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage solutions.
Strategic Importance for India’s EV and Clean Energy Sector
With lithium-ion battery demand projected to surge in India, battery waste volumes are expected to increase significantly. NavPrakriti’s partnerships and scaled recycling capabilities will ensure safe disposal, material recovery, and regulatory compliance, positioning the company as a key enabler of the country’s EV and clean energy ecosystem.
Road Ahead
Over the next three years, NavPrakriti aims to solidify its position as a leading player in battery recycling and refurbishment, expanding its network of partners and strengthening India’s EPR-driven recycling framework. The initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also enhances industrial resilience and domestic material security.
