Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to induct 75 new electric buses into its public transport fleet on April 8, marking a major step toward sustainable urban mobility in Nagpur.
The new fleet includes 41-seater, 12-metre buses designed for high-demand routes, with additional standing capacity for around 24 passengers. Of the total, 25 buses will be deployed at the Khapri depot, while the remaining 50 will operate from the Wathoda depot.
With this addition, NMC’s total fleet will expand to 628 buses covering 110 routes across the city. The rollout is part of a broader plan to induct 250 electric buses, of which 175 have now been delivered or deployed, while 75 are still pending.
The project had faced delays due to incomplete charging infrastructure at key depots, including pending electricity connections and unfinished facilities. Authorities had temporarily paused further deliveries to prevent buses from remaining idle without adequate charging support.
Officials now say these infrastructure gaps are being addressed, allowing the new buses to be deployed without further delay.
Backed by the Government of Maharashtra, the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and modernize the city’s transport system. The expansion is also expected to accelerate the phased replacement of nearly 195 diesel buses, contributing to a cleaner urban environment.
