Musashi India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japanese precision components giant Musashi Seimitsu Industries, has announced a major expansion of its Bengaluru plant to scale up the production of electric vehicle (EV) components, particularly for two-wheelers. The move aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen localization, support India’s EV ecosystem, and drive sustainable mobility solutions.

      Key Highlights of the Expansion

      • Enhanced Production Capacity: The Bengaluru facility will significantly increase the output of EV-critical components, including e-axles, enabling faster delivery to two-wheeler OEMs and startups. The expansion targets monthly production of 10,000 e-axles in Phase 1, with plans for further scaling based on demand.

      • Localization Goals: Musashi India aims to achieve 60–70% localization of its EV components by the end of the current financial year, reducing reliance on imports and lowering production costs for domestic EV manufacturers.

      • Technology Excellence Centre (MTEC): As part of the expansion, Musashi has inaugurated a Technology Excellence Centre in Bengaluru with an initial investment of approximately ₹10 crore. The facility will focus on R&D, rapid prototyping, and development of next-generation energy storage systems and electric drive technologies tailored for the Indian market.

      • Sustainability Commitment: The expansion supports Musashi’s long-term sustainability initiatives by promoting cleaner mobility solutions and reducing the carbon footprint associated with imported components.

      Strategic Partnerships & Market Impact

      • Musashi India has strengthened its collaboration with Delta Electronics and Toyota Tsusho through a joint venture, Musashi Delta e-Axle India Pvt. Ltd., to advance EV technology and component development.

      • The local manufacturing of critical EV components is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce lead times, and improve cost competitiveness for India’s rapidly growing EV sector.

      • The initiative will also create high-value employment opportunities in R&D, prototyping, and production, nurturing local engineering talent and supporting India’s EV innovation ecosystem.

      Future Outlook

With the expansion of the Bengaluru plant and the establishment of the Technology Excellence Centre, Musashi India is positioned to become a key enabler of India’s EV revolution. By offering high-quality, locally produced e-axles and other EV components, the company aims to support both startups and established manufacturers in accelerating electric mobility adoption nationwide.
