Montra Electric M&HCV, part of TI Clean Mobility, announced a major milestone for its flagship heavy-duty electric truck, the Rhino 5538EV. India’s first 55-tonne GCW electric truck has clocked more than 1.2 crore kilometres on Indian roads within just two years of its launch, marking a significant achievement in sustainable freight mobility.
With a fleet of 350 vehicles, the Rhino has demonstrated proven reliability in critical industries such as steel, cement, and port logistics. The company estimates that the truck’s operations have reduced over 3.79 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions — equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of nearly 181 million trees.
“This milestone is a powerful validation of India’s transition to clean mobility,” said Mr Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric (TI Clean Mobility). “With the Rhino 5538EV, we are proving that electric heavy transport isn’t a distant future — it’s already a reality. This achievement reflects our commitment to sustainable, cost-efficient logistics backed by innovation.”
The Rhino EV fleet currently records an uptime of over 98%, underscoring its reliability in high-demand industrial environments. Beyond reducing emissions, the trucks help companies cut operating costs through lower fuel and maintenance expenses while supporting their decarbonisation targets. Dedicated 24×7 on-site service support has further boosted uptime and customer confidence.
The Rhino 5538EV is powered by a 282 kWh LFP battery paired with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), delivering 280 kW (380 hp) of power and 2000 Nm of torque. It supports fast charging up to 240 kW, achieving a 20–100% charge in just 60 minutes, with a certified range of 169 km under standard test conditions.
Montra Electric is also expanding its Rhino lineup to include a 4×2 tractor trailer and a 6×4 tipper, extending its reach across the heavy-duty segment. Designed with driver comfort in mind, the Rhino features Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), low NVH levels, and enhanced drivability. Drivers have praised the vehicle for its smooth performance, ease of handling, and comfort on long hauls.
Built on a rugged chassis with proven aggregates such as heavy-duty bogie suspension, Meritor axles, and Wabco air brakes, the Rhino combines strength with a commanding road presence. With this milestone, Montra Electric reinforces its role as a pioneer in India’s clean heavy-duty freight sector.
