According to Krishan Pal Gurjar, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has already disbursed Rs 5,283 crore to electric vehicle manufacturers on sales of 11,75,888 units to December 8, 2023.

The Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India Phase II (FAME India Phase II) Scheme was launched on April 1, 2019 for a 5-year period with a total financial contribution of Rs 10,000 crore. It is primarily focused on boosting electrification of public and shared transportation, with the goal of supporting 7,090 e-buses, 5 lakh e-three-wheelers, 55,000 e-passenger cars, and 10 lakh e-two-wheelers through demand incentives. The Scheme also encourages the development of charging infrastructure.

The Heavy Industry Ministry has also approved 6,862 e-buses for intra-city operations for various cities/STUs/state government organizations. As of November 29, 2023, 3,487 e-buses had been delivered to STUs with grants of Rs 1,248 crore.

The government has also approved Rs 800 crore in capital subsidies for the three Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) of the government of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) to put up 7,432 public charging stations for electric vehicles.
