Mahasamruddhi Renewable Energy Limited (MREL) plans to set up 38 EV charging stations along the 701 km Samruddhi Expressway, supported by 44 MW of solar power at three inter-change points in Vidarbha. The initiative aims to provide green energy for pollution-free EV charging, aligning with Maharashtra’s renewable energy policies and India’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.
Currently, the expressway sees an average traffic of 40,000 vehicles daily. The solar plants will be ground-mounted, utilizing land along the expressway. So far, 9 MW of rooftop solar projects are already operational at Karanja (3 MW) and Mehkar (2 MW) inter-changes.
The new 44 MW solar units will be located at:
- IC 2 – Butibori (2 MW)
- IC 5 – Arvi Pulgaon (10 MW)
- IC 10 – Malegaon Jahangir (32 MW)
Power will be evacuated through 33/11 kV and 132/33 kV substations along the corridor.
This makes Samruddhi Expressway the first in India with integrated solar energy generation for EV charging, ensuring worry-free long-range drives for electric vehicle users. Surplus solar power is currently sold to MSEDCL at Rs 3.10/unit.
