Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the next-generation Mercedes A-Class will arrive globally in 2028, now featuring both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

The move marks a shift from the brand’s earlier strategy to phase out smaller models, reflecting a more balanced approach between internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

The upcoming A-Class will be built on Mercedes’ new MMA platform, which also underpins the Mercedes-Benz CLA. This architecture is designed to support multiple powertrains, making the model more adaptable to evolving market demands.

On the hybrid front, the car is expected to feature a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing between 156hp and 212hp, with both front- and all-wheel drive options likely. The electric version is set to share technology with the CLA Electric, including an 800V system and battery options ranging from 58kWh to 85kWh. Power outputs could start at around 224hp and go up to 354hp for dual-motor variants, with high-performance AMG versions also under consideration.

Mercedes is also focusing on improved ride quality, with a new five-link rear suspension expected on higher variants. Inside, the A-Class will remain a practical five-seater, with enhanced usability and potential features like adjustable rear seating.

The decision to continue the A-Class comes amid slower global EV adoption, prompting Mercedes-Benz to retain entry-level offerings while transitioning toward electrification.
