In order to break into the electric two-wheeler industry and hasten the switch from internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric motors, Matter Motor, a company located in Ahmedabad, is concentrating on its geared electric motorcycles.
The company has set a sales goal of 10,000 units this year and plans to launch 30 dealerships by the end of next month. Following the opening of a dealership here, Arun Pratap Singh, co-founder and Group COO of Matter, stated.
Currently, the nation’s average monthly sales of electric motorcycles are close to 2,000. Singh claimed that a lack of appropriate solutions was the reason for their under-representation in the electric two-wheeler market.
According to him, existing electric motorcycles are “effectively glorified electric scooters“, which hasn’t convinced conventional motorbike riders to switch to electric. He went on to say, “A motorcycle without gears is not a motorcycle.” Sales of electric scooters exceeded 100,000 units in May 2025.
Because creating a geared electric motorcycle requires sophisticated technology, not many businesses have entered this market. According to him, Matter has improved safety and avoided uncontrollable overheating by designing a liquid-cooled powertrain specifically for Indian roads and environments. Matter has made significant technological investments and submitted 350 patent applications to back up its inventions.
It has been more difficult for Matter to persuade the market, including dealerships, of the potential of electric motorcycles due to the difficulties caused by the failure of electric motorcycle brands such as Tork Motorcycles. However, with its first high-end model, the AERA 5000 Plus, which costs Rs 1,93,826 and is comparable to 160cc ICE motorcycles, Matter hopes to alter the direction of electric motorcycles.
