Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has announced a transformative electric mobility strategy that includes the rollout of multiple electric vehicles by 2030, led by the newly launched e-Vitara, along with an expansive nationwide charging and service ecosystem. The company aims to accelerate EV adoption in India by addressing the key concerns of range anxiety, charging availability, and long-term ownership support.
Maruti Suzuki Launches e-Vitara, Its First Mass-Market Electric SUV
Maruti Suzuki has introduced the e-Vitara, its first electric SUV for the Indian market, marking the beginning of the brand’s EV journey. The vehicle offers a claimed 543 km certified range, positioning it as one of the longest-range EVs in the segment.
The company confirmed that more EV models, spanning different body styles and customer segments, will be introduced before 2030 as part of its long-term electrification roadmap.
1 Lakh Charging Points Targeted by 2030
In one of India’s most ambitious EV infrastructure plans, Maruti Suzuki aims to establish over 100,000 public and semi-public charging points by 2030.
The company has already deployed:
-
2,000+ exclusive charging stations
-
Spread across 1,100+ cities
-
Covering top EV-demand hubs and key inter-city travel corridors
To scale the network quickly, Maruti Suzuki is collaborating with 13 charge-point operators and aggregators, alongside its widespread dealer ecosystem.
Boosting EV Servicing: 1,500 EV-Ready Workshops
To ensure long-term reliability and accessible ownership support, Maruti Suzuki plans to upgrade 1,500 service workshops to EV-ready status. This includes specialized diagnostic tools, high-voltage safety equipment, and a large pool of trained EV technicians.
The manufacturer will also expand its Service-on-Wheels fleet with 500 mobile service vans that can assist EV customers on the move, especially in non-metro regions.
Strengthening India’s EV Ecosystem
The company emphasised that building an extensive charging and service network is crucial to making EVs mainstream and practical for Indian families.
Maruti Suzuki stated that its “vehicle + infrastructure” strategy is designed to:
-
Reduce range and charging anxiety
-
Enable inter-city EV travel
-
Bring reliable servicing to every region
-
Encourage first-time EV buyers with assured support
Industry Outlook
With India’s EV market expanding rapidly, Maruti Suzuki’s integrated approach aims to position it as a major player in mass-market electric mobility. While the 100,000-charger target is ambitious, analysts believe the company’s scale, dealer base, and partnerships could give it a competitive advantage as the market evolves.
