Maruti Suzuki has declared that its upcoming models, particularly the entry-level and mid-level ones, will include a powerful hybrid drivetrain of their own. On its more expensive vehicles, such as the Grand Vitara and the Invicto, the brand will keep utilizing Toyota’s hybrid technology.

The powerful hybrid system from Toyota will also be available in an entirely new three-row SUV that is based on the Grand Vitara.

In the near future, Maruti will unveil its own hybrid powertrain. Senior management just validated this development. “As for HEVs, we have already been supplied with THS models from Toyota, but we will use our own strong HEVs or mild HEVs while balancing appropriate models.”

In contrast to Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid configuration, Maruti’s hybrid for the general public will use a much less expensive series-parallel hybrid setup. In this design, the gasoline engine in a series hybrid simply serves as a range extender or generator. This indicates that the system generates electricity to run an electric motor, which then drives the wheels, rather than actually propelling the car.

Because the internal combustion engine functions as a generator to continuously recharge the electric vehicle’s battery pack, this technology is also known as a range extender. This technology has been used into various Nissan cars. This technology is also included in the Nissan Note hatchback, which underwent extensive testing in India.

Maruti will introduce the new series hybrid (HEV) powertrain on the new Swift’s Z12E three cylinder petrol engine. First model to receive this new powertrain will most likely be the facelifted Fronx. Future models like the next gen Baleno and others will also benefit from this strong hybrid setup.

Once introduced, Maruti will have pure petrol, petrol mild hybrid, petrol strong hybrid (series), petrol strong hybrid (Toyota supplied) petrol- CNG and pure EV powertrain options across its line-up of cars, SUVs and MPVs.
