India’s biggest automaker, Maruti Suzuki, is all set to enter the electric vehicle industry with the launch of its first-ever electric SUV – the e-Vitara. The company has officially stated that the vehicle will make its debut in India on September 3, 2025, marking a big milestone in the brand’s EV journey.
The e-Vitara, based on the eVX concept unveiled at Auto Expo 2023, is constructed on an all-new electric skateboard platform jointly developed with Toyota. This platform promises enhanced efficiency, space, and driving dynamics. The e-Vitara will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility and exported abroad.
The SUV offers a sleek and aerodynamic design with narrow LED headlamps, a coupe-like profile, and beautiful 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear has linked LED taillamps and a blacked-out bumper with NEXA badging.
Inside, the cabin will boast a dual-screen configuration with a 10.1-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Highlights include heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, keyless entry, and a premium two-tone interior motif.
Maruti Suzuki will offer the e-Vitara in two battery options:
49 kWh (FWD): ~344 km range (WLTP), 142 bhp
61 kWh (FWD/AWD): Up to ~428 km range (WLTP), 171–178 bhp
Charging options include DC fast charging (10–80% in ~45 minutes) and AC wall box (full charge in ~4.5 to 9 hours).
The e-Vitara is expected to be packed with modern safety features, including:
- 7 airbags
- 360-degree camera
- Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- ISOFIX child seat anchors
The e-Vitara is projected to be priced between ₹17 lakh and ₹26 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it directly against rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and MG ZS EV.
Due to global supply chain challenges and rare earth element shortages, Maruti Suzuki has lowered early production expectations. Only roughly 8,200 units are planned between April and September; therefore, supply might be limited in the first few months post-launch.
