      Electric Truck Evolution in India- Market & Top Models

      Electric Trucks in IndiaDeemed to be a perfect strategy to combat greenhouse gas emissions, the Electrification of the automobile sector has come a long way since the introduction of electric vehicles in the past decade.

      Noted to be responsible for nearly 90% of vehicle emissions in India, the transportation sector is responsible for nearly 14% of India’s total greenhouse gas emissions.

      Decarbonization has now become the ultimate goal of the public as private enterprises all across the world achieve net carbon neutrality at the fastest speed possible.

      And though electrification of two- and three-wheelers, cars, and buses have already started gaining a new peak in the circles of the vehicle industry of India, the commercial EV sector such as goods and carrier logistics and Electric Trucks in India has yet to become popular as much as the personal transport vehicle space.

      Market of Electric Trucks in India

      Despite giving an aggressive push under the government initiatives, the main focus so far has always been focused largely on two and three-wheelers, cars, and buses.

      Though these steps are in the right direction, however, are they enough?

      Unfortunately, the answer remains no, since they don’t include trucks.

      On average, India possesses more than 2.8 million trucks that could run over 100 billion kilometers per year. Comprised of only about 2% on-road vehicles, these last-mile delivery trucks are responsible for about 40% of emissions and fuel consumption from road transport.

      Electric Trucks in India will be instrumental in accelerating India’s energy security as well as supporting the reduction of the goods transport cost. Keeping this aside, the spike in the Market of Electric Trucks in India will help in decarbonization.

      According to some recent studies, the share of electric trucks for overall freight trucks may turn about 79% by 2070 to reach net-zero emissions.

      Sensing the potential of last-mile delivery logistics in the Indian community with the popularization of online shopping, Electric Trucks in India are now trending more than ever as a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional diesel-powered vehicles.

      Here’s a list of the Top Electric Truck Models in India.

      Mahindra Treo 

      MahindraCounted as one of the leading Electric Trucks in India, Mahindra’s Treo is designed for last-mile delivery and is available in three different payload capacities: 3.5 tons, 4.5 tons, and 6 tons. It has a range of up to 150 km on a single charge and can be charged in just under six hours.

      Tata Motors Intra & ACE EV 

      ace evIndia’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors Intra is available in two different payload capacities: 1.2 tons and 1.5 tons. It has a range of up to 130 km on a single charge and can be charged in around eight hours.

      On the other hand, the company’s new Ace EV is described as India’s most advanced, zero-emission, four-wheel small commercial vehicle (SCV).

      Ace EV features Tata Motors’ EVOGEN powertrain offering a certified range of 154 kilometers with an advanced battery cooling system and regenerative braking system to boost the driving range of in India.

      Piaggio Ape Xtra Electric

      Piaggio Placed in the top category of leading Electric Trucks in India, Piaggio has designed this electric truck for last-mile delivery and is now available in two different payload capacities: 1.5 tons and 2 tons. It has a range of up to 100 km on a single charge and can be charged in around six hours.

      Ashok Leyland E COMET

      E-cometAnother leading model of Electric Trucks in India is Ashok Leyland’s model E-COMET which is available in two different payload capacities: 6.25 tons and 7.5 tons. Having a range of up to 150 km on a single charge, this electric truck can be charged in around six hours.

      Eicher Pro 2049

      eicherKnown to dominate the commercial vehicle sector, Eicher Motors’ latest model, Eicher Pro 2049 is a 5T GVW light truck that is suitable for all types of cargo/logistics shipping needs. Leading as one of the most popular Electric Trucks in India, this model weighs 4995 kg and can carry up to 3500 kg of payload.

      Though the mileage depends mainly on the driving condition and the type of cargo present, Pro 2049 offers a mileage in the range of 10-14 kmpl.
