Mangaluru is set to roll out its first electric bus on a city route, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transition toward cleaner public transport. The 35-seater fully air-conditioned electric bus was unveiled on Thursday by Charge Mobility, Ganesh Prasad Travels, and Neuton Auto.
Ganesh Prasad Travels will operate the bus on Route No. 27, connecting Mangaladevi Temple and State Bank. With this addition, the operator’s fleet strength on the route increases to five buses. The new vehicle features an automatic transmission system, and drivers are currently undergoing familiarisation to adapt to its operation. The bus is expected to complete around three trips per day.
According to the operator, the electric bus can cover approximately 200 km on a full charge. Fast charging takes about two hours, while a standard charge requires around five hours. The daily running distance is estimated at nearly 175 km, with charging to be carried out at fuel pump-based charging stations within the city.
Neuton Auto Managing Director Arathi K. Parigi highlighted that the bus offers uniform ride comfort for passengers and is equipped with real-time tracking technology. Mangaluru becomes the first city to deploy this model, with interest also emerging from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
