India’s electric two-wheeler market continues to expand at a rapid pace, with new models launching almost every week. Yet only a handful have emerged as consistent customer favorites. One of them is the Bajaj Chetak, which has crossed a major milestone with more than 600,000 deliveries since its debut six years ago.
According to retail sales data from the Vahan Portal, 602,672 Chetak scooters were sold between January 2020 and February 2026. During this period, the model accounted for a 14% share of the 4,275,496 electric two-wheelers sold across India. Only TVS Motor Company and Ola Electric have recorded higher EV two-wheeler sales than Bajaj Auto.
Production has also accelerated to meet rising demand. A report by Autocar Professional notes that Bajaj’s Pune facility has ramped up output significantly. As per SIAM data, 666,322 units of the Chetak were manufactured between January 2020 and January 2026, with nearly 500,000 of those produced in the last 22 months alone.
Chetak C2501: Affordable New Entry
Last month, Bajaj introduced the more affordable Chetak C2501 variant, priced at Rs 87,100 (ex-showroom). It features a 2.5 kWh battery pack offering a claimed IDC range of 113 km on a full charge. Weighing 108 kg, the scooter has a top speed of 55 km/h.
The C2501 competes directly with the TVS iQube 2.2kWh and the Hero Vida VX2 Go in the entry-level electric scooter segment.
With the launch of the C2501, Bajaj aims to strengthen its position in India’s electric two-wheeler space. The company is also rapidly expanding its retail footprint, now operating around 400 exclusive Chetak stores and 4,000 sales points across 800 cities.
