Li Auto plans to launch its first automated EV charging stations in the second quarter of 2026, stepping up competition with rivals such as Nio in advanced charging and energy replenishment technology.
The initiative aims to simplify the EV charging process by reducing the amount of manual input required from drivers, from finding a station and parking to starting the charging session itself. Li Auto says the automated stations will enhance convenience and provide a more relaxed experience for EV users.
The planned rollout coincides with the company’s ongoing expansion of its charging infrastructure. So far, Li Auto’s network includes more than 4,000 supercharging stations with over 22,000 charging points across more than 280 cities in China. The network supports high‑speed charging with a growing share of 4C and 5C superchargers, which can deliver rapid energy top‑ups.
The move into automated energy replenishment reflects intensifying competition among Chinese EV makers in charging technologies. Nio, for example, has been advancing automated battery swap and navigation systems that allow vehicles to autonomously drive to swap stations and replace batteries with minimal driver involvement.
Li Auto’s expansion into automated charging infrastructure represents a strategic effort to improve user experience and keep pace with evolving EV technology trends in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
