      A partnership on sodium-ion battery technology has been announced by Trentar Energy Solutions and KPIT Technologies. As part of the partnership, KPIT will give Trentar Energy Solutions its innovative sodium-ion battery technology so that it may further operationalise and market it. KPIT introduced their revolutionary sodium-ion battery technology in December 2023, which reduces reliance on lithium and has a longer lifespan and quicker charging time.

      Compared to lithium batteries, sodium-ion battery technology has a longer lifespan, 80% capacity retention for 3000-6000 cycles, and faster charging speed. Utilising earth-abundant raw materials is the foundation of this indigenous battery technology, which lowers the cost of electric mobility. It has promising uses in the marine and military industries, stationary deployments like UPS backups and grid storage, and mobility, including two-, three- and four-wheelers and public transit.

      Important features of KPIT’s sodium-ion battery technology include:

      • Long lifespan with 80% capacity retention for 3,000–6,000 cycles:
      • Various variations with unique performance traits and energy densities between 100 and 170 Wh/Kg
      • Superior sub-zero temperature tolerance;
      • superior high-temperature tolerance with minimum thermal management;
      • improved safety;
      • significantly lowers ownership costs and increases vehicle uptime, which boosts revenue; faster charging than standard lithium batteries.

      Tech Transfer Royalties to KPIT for 8 Years
      Trentar Energy Solutions has received the technology from KPIT’s sodium ion battery through this partnership. The development of sodium-ion-based battery technology is being carried out by a select few firms worldwide, including KPIT and now Trentar.

      Trentar will put money into the production of 3GWH sodium-ion batteries as part of the technology transfer deal, and KPIT will get upfront technology transfer fees as well as recurring royalties over an eight-year period.
