With an ex-showroom price of INR 17.99 lakh, Kia has introduced the Carens Clavis EV, its first seven-seater that is all electric. According to reports, the Clavis EV is made in India and customised for Indian conditions.
On July 22, 2025, reservations for the electric MPV will go live. Kia was among the first automakers to introduce a useful, family-sized electric car to the general public with this introduction.
Two Battery Choices with a Range of Up to 490 kilometres
Two battery options will be available for the Carens Clavis EV: a 42 kWh unit with an IDC range of 404 km and a bigger 51.4 kWh pack that can deliver up to 490 miles on a single charge.
A 171 PS electric motor producing 255 Nm of torque powers the EV’s engine. The EV is ideal for both everyday commuting and long-distance travel because it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds and supports 100 kW DC rapid charging.
Design Specifications
The Clavis EV, in contrast to conventional internal combustion vehicles, is initially only offered as a seven-seater.
Numerous contemporary technological innovations intended for comfort and convenience are included with the Carens Clavis EV. It has two 12.3-inch screens that serve as the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster.
All three rows of passengers benefit from improved airflow thanks to roof-mounted rear AC vents. One-pedal driving is made possible by the vehicle’s i-Pedal function, which makes driving more comfortable and energy-efficient.
A number of cutting-edge technologies are also included with the Carens Clavis EV, such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support for both internal and exterior use, which enables the car to charge external appliances or gadgets.
Similarly, for better control and energy economy, paddle shifters provide drivers a choice of four regenerative braking levels. The EV has active air flaps to increase aerodynamic efficiency, and a 25-litre frunk (front trunk) provides useful additional storage capacity.
To assist Clavis EV users, Kia has established a specialised EV charging network and unique EV-focused touchpoints around India. In keeping with its dedication to localised innovation, the business claims that the car was designed with Indian roads, climate, and driving conditions in mind.
India: An Expanding EV Industry
The introduction of Kia coincides with the growth of the Indian EV market, as seen by Tesla’s entry into the Indian market today with its first dealership in Mumbai’s BKC, indicating increased interest in the Indian EV market on a worldwide scale. With the Clavis EV, Kia closes a significant market gap and establishes a strong position in the reasonably priced family EV market.
