Kia’s first four-door electric vehicle is the EV4 Fastback. The Fastback, its most aerodynamic EV, has a 380-mile range between charges. Although it comes at a reasonable price, can it rival the Tesla Model 3?
Kia unveiled its first electric hatchback, the EV4 Hatchback, earlier. Its four-door brother, the new Fastback model, will be offered for sale alongside it.
Starting at £40,895 ($55,000) in the UK, the Kia EV4 Fastback is little more expensive than the EV3 ($32,995). The vehicle has a remarkable 380-mile range thanks to its 81.4 kWh battery pack.
It will not be offered with the lesser 58.2 kWh battery pack option, in contrast to the hatch. At 4,730 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, the Fastback is 5 mm lower and 300 mm longer than the hatchback version.
GT-Line and GT-Line S are the two trim levels that will be offered. A single front motor with 201 horsepower and 283 Nm of torque powers both versions, allowing it a 7.9-second sprint from 0 to 62 mph.
The EV4 Fastback is Kia’s most aerodynamic EV to date, with a drag coefficient of only 0.23 Cd, which contributes to a driving range of up to 380 miles.
The electric sedan’s 400V architecture allows it to recharge from 10% to 80% in just 29 minutes. Long-range models, however, will require approximately thirty-one minutes.
The interior is identical to that of the EV3, which, for the first half of the year, was the most popular retail EV in the UK.
At the centre is Kia’s new connected vehicle navigation cockpit, or CCNC, which has almost 30 inches of screen real estate. Two 12.3-inch infotainment and driver screens are part of the arrangement, along with an additional 5-inch climate control touchscreen.
The first Kia cars to come equipped with a number of new entertainment features, such as Rest mode and Theatre mode, are the EV4 hatchback and fastback versions.
Alongside the hatchback version, sales of the new fastback form are scheduled to start this autumn. Kia began orders for the Fastback variant.
Kia EV4 Fastback trim | Starting Price | Driving Range (WLTP) |
GT-Line | £40,895 ($55,000) | 380 miles |
GT-Line S | £45,395 ($60,100) | 380 miles |
While the S trim starts at £45,395 ($60,100), the base GT-Line starts at £40,895 ($55,000). The Tesla Model 3 RWD, in contrast, has a WLTP range of 323 miles and begins at £39,990 ($54,600). With a 436-mile range, the Long Range model costs £44,990 ($60,300).
The EV4 became the top-selling domestic EV sedan in Korea in May after the Fastback model was introduced in its home market earlier this year. Will foreign markets have the same level of demand for it?
