Although Kia is already introducing a number of new entry-level EVs, the company is also developing a more reasonably priced EV. It will start at less than $30,000 (€25,000), which is less than the EV2.
Kia originally showed the Concept EV2, a preview of the production vehicle scheduled for release in 2026, at its EV Day event in April.
Together with Kia’s first electric sedan and hatchback, the EV4, and its first electric van, the PV5, the EV2 was on display. The EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, and EV9 are among the electric cars that Kia is now producing, but more are on the way.
Ho Sung Song, the president and CEO of Kia, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to low-cost vehicles.
According to Kia’s CEO, the new EV, which costs less than €25,000 ($30,000), is “one area we are studying and developing.”
Kia is not in a rush to replace the Picanto, its current city car, though. The article claims that until Kia can produce the new electric vehicle for less than €25,000 ($30,000), the Picanto will continue to be sold.
Although a debut date has not yet been set, it is most likely going to happen at the end of the decade. Alongside the conventional gas-powered city car, the new EV may also be offered for sale.
According to Karim Habib, design director at Kia, the business took inspiration from the well-known Japanese company Muji, which is renowned for its simple designs.
For Kia, this is only the beginning. This year, the EV4 and EV5 will go on sale, and the EV2 will follow in 2026. By the end of the decade, next-generation EV6 and EV9—which are built on a new software-defined vehicle (SDV) 800V architecture—should be available.
“We can be more flexible, making different kinds of vehicles based on the same platform, because we are decoupling hardware and software,” Song clarified.
