Kia India is voluntarily recalling 1,138 units of its EV6 due to a potential error in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which could affect the performance of the 12V auxiliary battery. It has affected the EV6s manufactured between March 3, 2022 and April 14, 2023.

A similar recall was issued for the Kia EV6’s counterpart, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, a month ago. Kia says that the software of the ICCU in the affected units will be updated to rectify the issue.

The Korean brand says that it has notified the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) about the recall initiative, and will contact owners of the concerned vehicles to inform them. The owners will need to contact their respective Kia dealers to schedule an appointment for the update.

The Kia EV6 features a 77.4kWh battery pack and offers options of single motor rear-wheel drive and dual motor all-wheel drive. The single motor version delivers 229hp and 350Nm of torque, while the dual motor setup produces a combined 325hp and 605Nm of torque. It offers an ARAI range of up to 708km.

The EV6 competes with entry-level luxury SUVs such as the BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, C40 Recharge and the newly launched Mercedes EQA. It also faces some competition from its cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Priced between Rs 64.11 lakh and Rs 69.35 lakh ex-showroom in India, Kia’s EV6 is expected to introduce the facelift revealed in international markets to India next year.
