Keto Motors has received CMVR Type Approval Certification from the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) for its Urbanova KE9, a 9-metre electric bus, clearing it for commercial deployment across India. The certification is a key milestone in the company’s push into the country’s electric public transport segment.
The approval confirms that the Urbanova KE9 meets statutory requirements under India’s Central Motor Vehicles Rules, covering structural integrity, passenger safety, range efficiency, and operational reliability. With the certification in place, LuKeto Motors plans to initiate customer demonstrations and deliveries to State Transport Undertakings (STUs), school fleets, corporate shuttles, and urban mobility operators transitioning from diesel buses.
The Urbanova KE9 is built on an urban-grade chassis suitable for STU operations and smart city networks. It features a 245 kW liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 3,000 Nm of torque, supporting a maximum range of 225 km and a cruise range of 188 km under Indian Driving Cycle conditions.
The bus accommodates 31 seated passengers and 11 standing, with a top speed of 80 km/h and 20% gradability. Standard features include CCS2 fast charging compatibility, air suspension, anti-lock braking, regenerative braking, and electro-hydraulic power steering with disc brakes, designed to enhance passenger comfort and improve operational efficiency.
According to Venkatesh Challa, Director of LuKeto Motors, the approval allows the company to accelerate commercial deployment of electric buses and support India’s transition to clean, zero-emission public transport.
