The state of Kerala is planning to establish 147 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along national highways to strengthen the charging network and support the growing number of EVs on the road.

The project will be coordinated by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), which has invited private charge point operators to set up and operate the charging facilities. The move is aimed at ensuring better charging access for EV users travelling across the state.

Officials said the stations will be located at strategic points along major highway routes to make long-distance travel more convenient for electric vehicle owners. The initiative is part of efforts to expand Kerala’s EV ecosystem and improve supporting infrastructure.

The plan is also aligned with the central government’s PM E‑DRIVE Scheme, which focuses on accelerating the deployment of EV charging infrastructure across the country.

Under the proposal, private operators will install and manage the charging stations, while KSEB will act as the nodal agency to review applications and coordinate approvals with the Union government.

Authorities believe the project will help strengthen the state’s power network, encourage EV adoption, and support the transition to cleaner mobility across Kerala.
