Kawasaki has patented a new electric motorcycle platform featuring a modular motor system, a design innovation that allows multiple types of electric motors to be installed on the same frame. The system uses an intermediate subframe between the main chassis and the motor/transmission unit, offering greater flexibility for future model development.
The patent reveals a steel trellis frame with removable battery packs placed between the frame rails and a motor located near the swingarm pivot. This setup could enable Kawasaki to develop different electric motorcycles using a single shared frame, reducing production complexity and costs.
Industry experts believe the modular system could streamline development, improve parts sharing, and lower the price of future electric motorcycles, making them more accessible to riders while maintaining performance and style.
Kawasaki’s innovation indicates the company is actively preparing for the next generation of electric motorcycles, targeting both performance and cost-efficiency as electric mobility continues to expand globally.
