Jupiter Wagons Ltd (JWL), a prominent player in rail mobility and freight solutions, has taken a decisive step into electric mobility by unveiling its first electric light commercial vehicle (e-LCV), the Jupiter Tez, along with plans for a dedicated EV manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh.
The newly introduced Jupiter Tez e-LCV is designed for last-mile and intra-city cargo transportation, targeting the growing demand for sustainable commercial mobility solutions in India. The vehicle aims to provide fleet operators and logistics businesses with an efficient, low-emission alternative to conventional delivery vehicles.
Alongside the vehicle launch, Jupiter Wagons announced the establishment of a new EV production hub, signalling the company’s long-term commitment to electric mobility. The facility, to be set up in Madhya Pradesh, will cater to the manufacturing of electric vehicles and battery systems and is expected to scale up operations rapidly to meet anticipated market demand.
Speaking about the development, a company spokesperson said the initiatives are part of Jupiter Wagons’ strategy to diversify beyond rail-based transportation and contribute to India’s broader clean energy and mobility goals.
The Tez e-LCV will feature modern drivetrain technology, competitive range, and optimised payload capacity, making it suitable for urban logistics and e-commerce sectors. With a focus on localised manufacturing, the company also aims to support the Make in India initiative while reducing its environmental footprint.
The Indian electric commercial vehicle market has been witnessing strong policy backing and market traction. Jupiter Wagons’ entry into this space places it among a growing list of traditional manufacturers pivoting towards future-ready transport solutions.
The company is expected to begin deliveries of the Jupiter Tez in the coming months, with full-scale production ramping up after the commissioning of the new facility.
