JSW MG Motor India is preparing to replace the current MG Astor and MG ZS EV with an all-new midsize SUV platform as part of its upcoming product strategy in India.
The new model is expected to be based on the SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture (SIGMA) platform, which supports multiple powertrain options including internal combustion engines, pure electric, and hybrid systems. The flexible architecture will allow the company to develop a family of midsize SUVs for the Indian market using a single platform.
The upcoming SUV is likely to focus on advanced features and next-generation technology as the brand aims to strengthen its position in the competitive midsize SUV segment. The new architecture will give MG the ability to compete across both conventional and electrified powertrain segments, similar to how the Astor targeted traditional SUV buyers while the ZS EV addressed early demand for electric SUVs in India.
The replacement for the Astor and ZS EV is expected to arrive in 2027.
Meanwhile, JSW-MG Motor has several new products lined up for the Indian market. The company plans to introduce the IM6 electric SUV later this year through its MG Select retail channel. Another upcoming model expected by 2026 will rival the Mahindra XUV700 and is likely to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560 platform, potentially becoming India’s first mass-market plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
JSW-MG Motor India has committed an investment of around USD 440 million to expand production capacity and introduce a range of new-energy vehicles. The company currently relies heavily on the MG Windsor EV, which emerged as one of India’s best-selling electric cars in 2025. With multiple new platforms and powertrains in development, MG aims to strengthen its portfolio and accelerate its growth in the Indian automotive market.
