According to HD Kumaraswamy, Union Minister for the Ministry of Heavy Industries, India intends to make sure there is enough infrastructure for charging electric cars as they become widely used around the nation. He added that in order for purchasers of electric vehicles (EVs) to take advantage of demand incentives under the recently approved PM E-DRIVE (PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement) plan, the Ministry of Heavy Industries will shortly launch e-vouchers.

At a seminar on ‘FAME’s Success in Transforming India’s EV Landscape’ organized by the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the FICCI, Kumaraswamy discussed the government’s plan to increase the country’s EV charging infrastructure. Declaring, “We are ramping up charging infrastructure fast,” he disclosed that 10,763 public charging stations will be installed nationwide as part of the FAME-II program.

The government’s strategy to encourage the use of electric vehicles has undergone a substantial change with the introduction of e-vouchers. “This is a new and unique feature of the scheme,” Kumaraswamy clarified. We’ll be sharing the advanced stages of the modalities with you shortly.

The Union Cabinet introduced the PM E-DRIVE program last week with the goal of accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by providing significant upfront incentives and developing essential infrastructure for charging them.

“Our goal is to reduce our environmental footprint, improve air quality and build a competitive and resilient electric vehicle manufacturing industry,” Kumaraswamy stated.
