With the opening of one of Spain’s biggest EV charging stations—Madrid’s largest fast charging station—in Leganés, Iberdrola España and the Community of Madrid are strengthening their dedication to electric mobility. In addition to 10 fast chargers and 22 semi-speed chargers, the hub has 47 charging ports, including 15 ultra-quick chargers that can provide an 80% battery charge in less than 15 minutes or 200 kilometres of range in only five minutes.
The 1,260-square-metre facility is ideally situated adjacent to Leganés, Getafe, Fuenlabrada, and Alcorcón, as well as the Parque Polvoranca train station and important highways (M-406, M-407, M-409, and M-50). It serves an area of impact that includes about 750,000 people. Constructed in the well-established residential neighbourhood of Arroyo Culebro, it is the second public land charging centre run by Iberdrola España under a lease with Planifica Madrid.
Iberdrola España is in charge of installing, running, and maintaining the station, which has solar panels to provide renewable energy to the facility and up to 100 neighbouring homes or businesses. Depending on how long they plan to park, users can choose from ten 60 kW fast chargers, eight 350 kW and seven 240 kW ultra-speed chargers, and twenty-two semi-fast 22 kW chargers. The project is a component of the European Union-funded MOVES Singular Projects II Programme in Spain, which aims to advance sustainable mobility.
“Electric mobility requires public–private partnerships to advance in residents’ well-being and contribute to improving air quality in cities and their sustainable development,” said Antonio Armengot, the spokesperson for Iberdrola Clientes in Madrid. “Our dedication to electric mobility was pioneered at Iberdrola España, and today we are leaders in public charging, operating over 9,500 stations on major highways, cities, small villages, and country roads.”
